The Arabic themed party is suitable for any age range, for kids playing around the magic carpet or for adults practicing belly dancing and eating spicy Arabic food. If you love the movie Aladdin, have a Jasmine or Arabian party! Inspired by the Disney movie, the Aladdin party is recommended for small children as well as for teenagers. Thus, if there will be variations of age between the guests, such a party will definitely be appealing for all of them.
Invitations
For invitations find a photo of Jasmine or Aladdin (depending if your child is a girl or a boy) and write a text inspired from Aladdin, preferably using words like Princess/Prince and your child’s name. If you want the children to wear a certain type of clothing make sure you point this out on the invitation along with the request to RSVP. Then roll the paper and tie it with a golden wrapping.
Decorations
The first things your guests need to see is a magical gate that will take them in the fantastic city of Agrabah. You can choose an Arabian-style arch or you can choose a curtain-like decoration.
Place an oil magic lamp on the table as a centerpiece – I would actually go to a second-hand store and see if you could find a real one. Either that, or Amazon sells inexpensive brass lamps starting at around $9, or toy lamps starting at $4 – buy one for each participant at the party. Later you can use the lamp or lamps for fun activities like rubbing it to invite the genie – this will involve you hiring a genie character who “suddenly” enters the room, or having one of your friends dressing as a one to entertain the kids.
Purchase some fabric and drape the walls to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Go for royal colors like burgundy and white as well as for water & sand colors that will recreate the desert look.
Decorate with some Jasmine and Disney themed party decorations. One thing to look for is a Jasmine cutout.
Place some jewels all over the party area so that it will look like a cave filled with treasures. You can leave them in sight for decoration purposes or you can hide them so that the guests will have to find them.
To fully recreate the Arabian setting from Aladdin you will also need a magic carpet. You can purchase one as prop or you can make your own magic carpet by using an old rug put in the middle of the room. Place a small table in the middle of the carpet, preferably a low one so that children can sit on the rug when eating. Other popular decorations include push snakes and tigers, Arabic themed props and plastic palms.
Activities
Treasure hunt – make children believe they are Aladdin and have to search for the famous lamp – as well, you can put together a small package of toys and label it with each party participant’s name. That way, everybody will find something.
Dancing to the Aladdin soundtrack (use some chairs and turn it into the dance chair game);
Dressing time – have a chest with clothes in the room. Place different clothes inside and let the children choose the items they need to build an Arabian costume.
Tell Genie what you want – ask a friend to dress like genie or hire a professional and ask children to share their wishes with the genie. The “realistic” wishes will be granted.
Aladdin in colors (for little kids) – give them colored pencils to color parts of the Aladdin story. You can use it as an activity during the party or as a way of entertaining your guests until all of them arrive.
Snacks
For Aladdin parties most people would recommend Arabic food. However, it is quite spicy and many of the children are not familiar with it, thus they may not find it tasty. Instead, you should go for sandwiches with different fillings cut in star or heart shapes (using cookie cutters), pizza and of course, an Aladdin themed cake.
Favors
As favors you can take pictures of the children dressed up in Aladdin clothes or let them have the jewelry and toys they could find during the treasure hunt. If you went with the magic lamps option, they will be able to take one home.
Aladdin is a great inspiration for an exotic party that will enchant children of all ages and a positive shift from the traditional stories with prices and princesses.
